Unwanted hair can easily be removed using a do-it-yourself method, however, this can be tedious, messy, and painful. It can also become inconsistent if you are performing the treatment yourself. Experienced dermatologists perform hair removal treatments on a regular basis depending on the area of hair you want to be removed and how permanent you want the treatment to be.
Laser Treatments: The process of removing hair with a laser targets the root of the hair follicle to permanently stop it from growing hair.. The follicle is overloaded with light from the laser and the heat causes it to die, meaning that hair cannot grow there anymore. Small areas on the face can be treated in as little as five minutes.
Waxing/Tinting: Waxing is a treatment used for removing unwanted hair from the body. Wax is spread over the desired area of the body and when it is removed, the hair goes with it. Tinting is a procedure for darkening hair, typically the hair of the eyebrows or eyelashes. During the tinting procedure, a small applicator, such as a q-tip, is used to apply the dye. Tinting will leave your lashes and eyebrows darker for up to several weeks.
“Laser hair removal is the most common laser treatment performed in the US. Even though it is widely available, it can be dangerous if the correct laser wavelength and settings aren’t used. Always seek the expert advice of a board certified Dermatologist for all of your laser treatments.”
