Skin bumps, lumps, blisters and bug bites all appear on the surface of the skin and they can all form for different reasons.
Bumps: Skin bumps may be caused by several factors. They can be caused by an allergic reaction or other irritation. Poison ivy, poison oak, and other ailments can also cause skin bumps. Patches of skin that are raised and have silver and scaly appearance may be psoriasis. If your skin bumps are not going away or appear to be infected, seek medical attention.
Lumps: Lumps in your skin can be caused by a wide variety of things, including heart disease and skin cancer. To be safe, it is important to have a doctor evaluate any lumps you may find.
Blisters: Blisters will look like fluid-filled sacs on your skin. They are often caused by friction (rubbing against clothes, shoes, or other objects) or burns (sunburns included). It is important not to pop blisters once they form. This can increase the risk of infection. If you are blistered over a large part of your body or believe your blisters are infected, contact a dermatologist.
Bug Bites: Bug bites can take a variety of forms, but are normally raised, red, itchy bumps. The urge to itch these can be diminished with some over-the-counter medications. It is important not to scratch the area because too much irritation can lead to infection. If your bug bite appears infected or has a ring around the area, contact a dermatologist right away.
Medications: Medications prescribed by a dermatologist and be an effective way to treat a variety of skin bumps, lumps or blisters. Antihistamine like Benadryl can help with the itching.
Topical Cream: In most cases, rashes resulting from a mild allergic reaction to insect bites can go away on their own. However, you may need to take a trip to the dermatologist’s office in the case of a more severe reaction. A dermatologist will prescribe a topical or internal steroid in these cases.
“Dermatologists are experts in diagnosing lumps, bumps, and blisters on the skin. There are numerous conditions that can cause these symptoms so it is important to see an expert to find the cause and get the appropriate treatment.”
